Your character is going on holiday.
What do they pack in their luggage? What does the luggage
look like? Where will they be going? How will they travel?
Where will they stay when they arrive at their destination?
Write a short scene where your character packs to leave on
their vacation. Keep your writing tight. Show the time by
"dripping" fashions contemporary with the year you are writing
in.
Good luck.
Around the globe "World Cup" fever is raging. Are you following the events of each day, or don’t you even care who the teams are? Is the coverage just a little too much overkill for you, or can you not get enough of it? Write an opinion essay on whether or not the media over-indulges some international sporting events with a view to making money from the advertising revenue they bring in.

For newcomers to Wake Up Writing the
Friday Seeds are here to provide a starting point for a piece of fiction.
Start your page with any of the above seeds and continue the story where your
muse takes it. With a little creativity these can become anything from a
short short story to a full-blown novel. Have fun.
Today’s exercise for fiction writers is on characterization. Our present is created from our past, and this in turn reflects on our future. In terms of the main character in your novel or short story, this past is often never revealed, and yet it is why they have become the kind of person they are.
Your assignment today is to create a short biography of no more than 500 words that is the potted life story of your main character. Where were they born, what was their home like life, did they have siblings and if so what relationship did they have with them, did they enjoy school, what did they like, what did they hate, what was their most treasured possession, what was their greatest secret, what was their most memorable moment, and what moment do they wish they could forget.
Although this will never be used in your fiction as it is, you might find a hidden quality or two that will add a new dimension to your story.
What is summer to you? Do you love it and await its arrival each year with joyful anticipation, or do you loathe the heat, mosquitoes and extra yard chores that it entails? Is it time for an annual family vacation, or just a time when you need extra patience whilst the children are not in school? Write the heading "I think of summer with…." and go on from there.

Do you remember going to the park as a child? What was your favourite ride? Did you like to swing back and forth, higher and higher on the swing, or were you more wooshing down the slide time and again? Did you ever grow out of the thrill you got when doing this, or do you still try and sneak a ride on the little roundabout when no-one is looking? Today write a journal entry about a trip to the park - fact or fiction it’s your choice.
