An exercise for fiction writer’s today.

Your character wakes up late, finds that her power has been shut off so she has no hot water for a shower, and her frozen/fresh goods are starting to spoil - and she’s late for work. Write a scene where she phones the power provider to find out why she’s had her utility shut off.

Write the title “The Lost Children” at the top of your page, set your timer for 20 minutes and start writing. Fiction, non-fiction, poetry, or essay - doesn’t matter - just let your creativity take the words in whichever direction they want to go.

Your exercise today is to incorporate all of the following words into an article, short story, poem or whatever comes to mind. You must use all of the words (in any order) to complete the exercise, but the context in which they are used is up to you. Think about the words for a few minutes before you start to write and see what pictures come to mind - then see if you can weave them all together into a piece of writing.
