Timed exercise to start the week…….

Monday, February 28th, 2005

Set your watch, kitchen timer, whatever, for 20 minutes, write the title "Through the window I see….." as the first few words of your page, and then continue down. Now no running backwards and forwards to the window - this doesn’t have to be the window in your room, your house, or even a real window at all! This can be fiction if you so choose. See where your muse takes you with it.

Going shopping in today’s exercise.

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Mentally go through your usual weekly grocery shopping list. Choose 6 things that you MUST buy each week. Why are these 6 more essential than the rest. Then choose 4 items that you would miss out if you had too - why these and not some of the others? Which item would you never not buy, regardless how little money you had? Why is this item so essential to your weekly shop?

Set your alarm for 20 minutes, write the title “The Avenue of Whispers” at the top of your page - and start writing. Don’t stop until the 20 minutes is up. What did you end up with? Is it a possible short story? Could it be the inspiration behind a novel? Is it a piece of non-fiction suggested by the title? Who knows where freewriting can take you.

They sell all kinds of stuff on ebay….

Monday, February 7th, 2005

Ebay, the online auction site, is where you’ll find almost anything you could possibly wish to purchase. Your assignment today is to sell yourself! Well not literally - unless of course the idea appeals!

What I’d like you to do is to write an ad that would offer you as the "lot" for sale. Think about your best attributes and present yourself in your best light.
