Each decade has a culture that sets it apart from the others.  This morning write either a piece of fiction or non-fiction that shows the piece to be firmly set in the 1980s (think fashion, music, trends, tv - even politics and events).  Your starting point is a title:  “Chain Reaction” - don’t think of the song, just the title and see what your creativity does with it - will it right fiction, or non-fiction, and can you firmly place your piece in the 1980s by adding the right “setting” points?

Use all of the following 10 words in a piece of fiction or non-fiction.  The only rule is that all of the words must fall somewhere in the piece, the order and context of the words is up to you.

There’s a lot of fuss and media time going into the Paris Hilton case.  Should she or shouldn’t she be in jail?  Write a letter to your local newspaper editor giving an opinion for or against her being sent to prison as any non-celebrity would be - remember to give reasons to back up your opinion.

Think back over the years and the type of clothes you’ve worn.  Write about the worst outfit you can remember.  Describe it, what you thought about yourself in it at the time, and how you feel about it now.

Your local newspaper is running a competition to find the best “good neighbor” in its distribution area.  Write a letter recommending one of your neighbors for the award giving reasons why you think they should receive it. 

Take the following components and write a piece of not more than 300 words that incorporates them all:

4. Lampshade

What do you think about global warning?  Write an opinion essay about your opinion of the situation, and whether or not you think your country is doing all that it could to stop - or at least slow down - the affects of global warning on our planet.

What colors do you favor in your life?  Why do you prefer these?  Are your favorite colors reflected throughout your home as well as your wardrobe - and even out into the garden, or do you have different color “zones” in your life?
